Overhead cranes are suitable wherever one needs to move heavy loads in three axes.
The possibilities of their use are very extensive. From simple small cranes with load capacity of 63 kg, able to transport products onto work tables, through to workshop cranes, cranes for repairs of cars or trucks, production lines, warehouses, as well as high-weight load cranes up to 250 t and more, process cranes, fully automated, grab cranes, magnet or to explosive environments.
Lifting equipment (hoist or crab) is located on the crane bridge or crane bridges. The crane consists of one or two crane bridges, end carriages, in which are mounted wheels and carne drives. We distinguish overhead cranes to single girder or to double girder ones.
As drives we use asynchronous three-phase motors, usually controlled by a frequency inverter which ensures smooth motion and limits the sway of the load. The main part is the hoisting mechanism, hoist or double-girder crab. The crane is further comprised of electric installations, power supply, control cables and the crane control that can be a control pendant or radio control.
Single girder cranes are used for loads from 63 kg to ca 16 000 kg, although exceptionally they can load up to 25 000 kg. Their span can reach over 30 m. Usually it is used in workshops, manufacturing processes, repair shops, warehouses etc.
It is simpler and cheaper, but it is designed according to the same standards - the Eurocode and it is as reliable as double girder cranes.
It is can be controlled by control pendant or radio control. These cranes can be used for interior and exterior operations use or special operation, eg. in an explosive atmosphere.
Double girder cranes are used for larger weight loads from approx. 10 000 kg up to 200 t, or for special applications. In general, they are designed for greater load or such as the transverse turning of moulds, where the more suitable tangential angle of the rope to the hoist drums of the two crabs allows for a greater leading angle of the rope.
Crane control can be dealt with as above, with a control pendant, a radio remote control with buttons or a joystick.
The control can also be in Master / Slave or Master / Master mode for synchronous control of two cranes or two crane crabs.The end carriage of cranes consist of a box beam and high quality profile with built in hardened wheels stored in special houses with high-quality bearings. They are guided on the rail by flanges or side rollers.
